Our dentists use two main methods of tooth filling : direct and indirect.
- Indirect fillings will require a couple of visits to the dentist. The tooth is treated with a custom-made filling. This filling must be made to your specifications in a dental laboratory prior to fitting. Among the indirect filling treatments, we can mention gold fillings and porcelain fillings that look more natural. They can last for up to 20 years.
- Direct fillings are available in one sitting or chair side. These include amalgam fillings, which are noticeable due to their color, as well as composite resin fillings (white fillings). Resin composite fillings are white colored, making them less noticeable. It is possible to pour the resin mixture directly into the cavity. However, it tends to be less durable than amalgam and gold fillings.

Dental restoration procedure
In preparation for this topic, it may be helpful to understand the two basic types of dental fillings – direct fillings and indirect fillings.
Direct fillings are dental fillings which are placed in a prepared cavity in a single appointment at the dentist.
Direct fillings consist of resin ionomer, glass ionomer, silver amalgam and composite resin fillings. The dentist will prepare the tooth, position the filling and adjust it during a single visit.
Indirect fillings usually require two or more visits at the dental clinic.
These types of fillings include inlays, onlays and veneers made from gold, base metal alloys, ceramics or composites.
Indirect fillings are used when a tooth is too damaged to support a filling but not damaged enough to require a crown.
During the first appointment at the dental hospital, the dentist will prepare the tooth and take an imagery of the area to be restored. The dentist then places a temporary covering over the prepared tooth.
The dental impression is sent to a dental laboratory, which then creates the dental restoration. At the next scheduled appointment, the dentist cements the restoration into the prepared cavity and adjusts it if necessary.
